Not your ordinary sales conference

 

As one of the biggest telecommunications (telco) companies in South Africa, Vodacom continues to innovate and inspire. Not just at a consumer level but through their company culture and for their valued employees. Known for their immersive sales conferences, an events agency approached us (FreeMan) during my time as a brand consultant. We were tasked to conceptualise a theme for the Vodacom Enterprise Business Unit’s 2018 Sales conference.

 

As the senior design consultant, I looked after conceptualisation, strategy, and all design elements that were required.  As a fun addition to the pitch, a single-page newspaper was printed detailing the full strategy of the conference for board members to read and assess. A strategy on a page was delivered, just the way they like it.

 

The overarching concept for the conference “Sales Camp” embodied a fun, child-like experience and took place over three days. The concept for each day looked at ways to engage with sales staff in new and interesting ways and was hosted at Sun City.

 

The days were split into “Connect”, “Inspire”, and “Motivate”. On the Connect day, staff played camp-inspired games and were challenged to a series of activities throughout the day.

 

The Inspire day took the form of “Red Talks”, a TED Talks-inspired round-robin which required each individual to join each of the six 30-minute talks at different times.

 

The last day, Motivate, was made up of a host of relaxing activities and ended with the awards evening.

 

I designed all event collateral including presentations, invitations, printed and digital animated/static assets.

 

Overall the event was a memorable one. As a concept for continuous engagement with staff, the consultancy introduced town halls to the client which were successfully executed in the following year.
